Online Checking of Driving Licence Status

Checking driving licence validity is easy with the online service offered by the Transport Department. Here you can find out how to use the service, what you need for the checking and other details.

Using the Service via MyGovHK

You can check whether your driving licence is valid and the reasons for invalidity (if applicable), and authorise another person to check the same via MyGovHK. But first of all, you have to register for a MyGovHK account.

Access or register with MyGovHK

After login, you have to link up the service with MyGovHK by selecting “Access Online Checking of Driving Licence Status” under the List of Online Services. If you are the authorised person, choose “Access Online Checking of Driving Licence Status (Authorised Person)”. You may refer to the steps below based on different scenarios. 

How to Do the Linkup If You Do Not Have a Digital Certificate?

  1. Input your identity document number.
  2. Input your driving licence reference number.
  3. An activation code will be posted to your correspondence address within three working days.
  4. After receiving the activation code, log into this online service again to input the code and you will be able to check your driving licence status and authorise another person to check the same.

How to Do the Linkup If You Have a Digital Certificate?

  1. Log in to MyGovHK account with your digital certificate;
  2. You will be able to check your driving licence status and authorise another person to check the same without an activation code. 

How to Authorise a Person without a Digital Certificate to Check Your Driving Licence?

  1. Input the email address of the person you wish to authorise. The email address must be the one the person used to register with MyGovHK.
  2. The authorised person will receive an email notifying him of the authorisation.
  3. The authorised person can then check your driving licence status after logging into this online service and inputting your driving licence reference number. 

How to Authorise a Person with a Digital Certificate to Check Your Driving Licence?

  1. Input the email address of the person you wish to authorise. The email address must be the one the person used to register with MyGovHK.
  2. Input the person’s digital certificate number.
  3. The authorised person will receive an email notifying him of the authorisation.
  4. The authorised person can then check your driving licence status after logging into this online service, without the need to input your driving licence reference number.
