BCA helps teachers identify students' strengths and areas for improvement so that timely assistance can be offered. It also provides information on the basic competency standards in Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics attained by Primary 3 and 6, and Secondary 3 students.
The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority had administered the HKCEE since 1978. With the implementation of the New Academic Structure (NAS), the HKCEE was discontinued from 2012.
