FAQs about mobile access to eTAX

  • Q1.
Which eTAX services can be used on mobile devices?
    Ans

All eTAX services, except purchase of Tax Reserve Certificate, can be accessed via mobile devices.

  • Q2.
Will eTAX work well on any mobile device?
    Ans

Mobile devices of different brands and models with different operating systems and browsers have their own features. If you encounter compatibility problems, please change to use a desktop or notebook computer.

  • Q3.
Can I use mobile device to view my assessment notice / applied Business Registration Documents?
    Ans

Yes, for majority of the popular mobile devices. However, the mode of operation may vary according to individual system.  For example:

    iOS devices
The PDF file is opened on the native browser under a separate tab after you have clicked the "View" button.

    Android devices
The PDF file will be downloaded to and saved in your device automatically. You can open the file at the "Download" folder using a PDF Reader.

  • Q4.
Why do I get an “Error 100” or “Error 500” message?
    Ans

Under the following circumstances, you might encounter an "Error 100" or "Error 500" message when using mobile device under eTAX:

    1) Tap the Back Arrow, Forward Arrow or Refresh button of the browser.

Please avoid tapping these buttons when accessing eTAX.

    2) While the device is processing an instruction, please do not tap more than once to initiate the same or another action.  Otherwise, system error may be triggered.

  • Q5.
Why do I get an “Error 800” message?
    Ans

Since the system does not allow user to login to the eTAX service by opening a new tab under the same browser at the same time, you will encounter “Error 800” message under the following circumstances:

    1. there is another active eTAX service session in a tab under the same browser at the same time; or
    2. there is previous eTAX service session in a tab under the same browser that has not been properly logged out.

Please return to the first tab to continue using the eTAX service.

If you want to login as another user, please logout the previous eTAX services/sessions or close all the tabs under the same browser and try again.  For Android devices, as the cookies cannot be cleared even you have closed all the tabs under the browser, please clear all cookies under the browser settings option.

  • Q6.
Why certain Chinese Characters cannot be displayed in mobile devices?
    Ans

Some mobile devices do not support certain Chinese characters, thus these characters cannot be displayed. If you wish to read the full content of the message, please change to use a desktop or notebook computer.

  • Q7.
Why the number of characters actually allowed to be entered in the textbox is less than the stated number?
    Ans

eTAX services are designed for desktop and notebook computers.  Users may encounter compatibility issues if they access eTAX through mobile devices.  If you use Apple devices with iOS version below 8.0, you may encounter the problem that the number of characters actually allowed to be entered in the textbox is less than the stated number.  If you wish to enter more characters in the textbox, please change to use a desktop or notebook computer.

  • Q8.
Why some non-popular web browsers (for example, Facebook Search, Google Search, UC browser, etc.) cannot access eTAX services via mobile devices?
    Ans

In order to ensure high level of security and smooth operations in using eTAX services, only the stable version of operating systems and browsers without major compatibility issue found during our preliminary testing will be allowed to access eTAX services. We recommend you using the tested combinations of operating system and browser as listed in the System Requirements for GovHK Online Services webpage (https://www.gov.hk/en/about/helpdesk/softwarerequirement/onlineservice.htm) to access eTAX services. If the problem persists, please change to use a desktop or notebook computer for accessing eTAX services.
