Review of the Air Quality Objectives

Proposed Amendments to the Preservatives in Food Regulation (Cap. 132BD)

Brief Description :

One of the initiatives set out in the Policy Measures of the Chief Executive’s 2022 Policy Address is to review and update by phases the food safety legislation relating to additives in food to further enhance food safety.  The first phase covers preservatives and antioxidants in food.  This consultation document sets out the proposal to update the regulatory control of preservatives and antioxidants in food, so as to enhance protection to consumers, promote harmonisation of local and international food safety standards, and facilitate the food trade.

 

The Environment and Ecology Bureau and the Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department have reviewed Cap. 132BD.  The proposed amendments keep Codex standards as the backbone and supplemented with food standards of the Mainland and other major food trading partners.

The consultation results indicated that the upgrading of existing energy efficiency grading standards is supported in general. Proposal to Regulate and Phase Down Hydrofluorocarbons for Implementation of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol

Tightening the Sulphur Content Limits of Marine Light Diesel and Industrial Diesel and Lifting the Restriction on Use of Liquid Fuel and Solid Fuel in Sha Tin Fuel Restriction Area

Brief Description :

This consultation document sets out the proposal to tighten the sulphur content limits of marine light diesel (Cap.311Y) and industrial diesel (Cap.311I) to no more than 0.001%, such that the sulphur content of diesel for motor, industrial and commercial as well as local and inland marine uses in Hong Kong will be 0.001%, which dovetails with Mainland’s policy.  

This document also sets out the proposal to lift the restriction on the use of liquid and solid fuel in Sha Tin Fuel Restriction Area, which is considered as obsolete to retain under the current legislation (Cap.311I).
