Online Application for Letter of Authorization for Opening / Maintaining Savings Account of a Bankrupt
With the permission of the provisional trustee / trustee, an undischarged bankrupt may open / maintain a savings account for the purpose of receiving his / her income.
For bankruptcy cases in which the Official Receiver acts as the provisional trustee / trustee, an undischarged bankrupt can use this online service to apply for a Letter of Authorization for Opening / Maintaining Savings Account (the Authorization Letter) and preliminarily submit information of his / her income and the savings account that he / she wishes to maintain (if applicable).
When submitting an application, you must provide your name, bankruptcy case number and case year, Hong Kong identity card number, contact phone number, email address, details of your income and details of the savings account you wish to open / maintain. Staff from the Official Receiver’s Office will contact you by phone / email to arrange the submission of supporting documents.
For an application with issues or requiring submission of supporting documents, staff from the Official Receiver’s Office will contact you by phone or email. Once the application is approved, the Authorization Letter can be collected in person from the Official Receiver’s Office or received electronically. You must present the Authorization Letter to the bank to process your application for opening / maintaining a savings account. [Note: Application for opening / maintaining a savings account is subject to production of necessary information and documents according to the policy of an individual bank and it is the discretion of the bank to approve or reject the application.]
