    I am holding an eTAX password for using online tax services provided under the Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) platform. Can I use that password to access to the online services provided under ITP?
    Ans

    No. You can only use the online services under ITP through your ITP Account.

    Holders of a personal digital certificate or "iAM Smart" Account may direct login to their ITP Account. No account registration is required. Other taxpayers may login to their ITP Account to use the services after registering an ITP Account.

    I am a holder of personal digital certificate. Do I need to complete the registration process before I can use the online tax services provided under ITP?
    Ans

    No. Taxpayers may direct login to ITP Account with a personal digital certificate. However, on their first login to ITP, they are required to accept the ITP Terms and Conditions and update / supplement the personal information recorded in the User Profile of their ITP Account.

    I am a holder of "iAM Smart" Account. Do I need to complete the registration process before I can use the online tax services provided under ITP?
    Ans

    No. Taxpayers may direct login to ITP Account with "iAM Smart". However, on their first login to ITP, they are required to accept the ITP Terms and Conditions and update / supplement the personal information recorded in the User Profile of their ITP Account.

    I made an online application for an Access Code last week to setup my ITP Password but have not yet received it. What should I do?
    Ans

    IRD will send out the Access Code notice to the applicant's correspondence address recorded in IRD's database by post within 2 working days after receiving online application. If the Access Code notice fails to deliver to you within a reasonable time, please contact the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) at 183 2011.

    If you know your TIN (for eTAX login) and have provided a Hong Kong Mobile Phone No. to the IRD, you can choose to have the Access Code send to your Mobile Phone No. via SMS. You may register an ITP Account instantly after receiving the Access Code.

    What should I do if I have lost the Access Code notice?
    Ans

    You can apply for a new Access Code again.

    If you are an "iAM Smart" Account holder, you can direct login to your ITP Account.

  • Q6.
    What should I do if I have forgotten my Taxpayer Identification Number for eTAX login [i.e. TIN (for eTAX login)]?
    Ans

    Your TIN (for eTAX login) is shown (part of it may be covered) on your Tax Return-Individuals and notices of tax assessment.

    You can click "Forgot TIN and/or Password" on ITP login page and select "Forgot TIN (for eTAX login)". After authenticating your self according to the system's instruction, you can recover your TIN (for eTAX login). For details please refer to the e-Demo.

    If you are an "iAM Smart" Account holder, you can direct login to your ITP Account. No input of your TIN (for eTAX login) is required.

    What should I do if I have forgotten my ITP Password?
    Ans

    You may click "Forgot TIN and/or Password" on ITP login page, then select:

    1. select "Request Password Hint" to request the system to send the Password Hint by e-mail; or
    2. select "Forgot Password" to apply for an Access Code for resetting your ITP Password. You may choose to have the Access Code send to your correspondence address recorded in the IRD database by post or to the Hong Kong Mobile Phone No. you have provided with the IRD before by SMS. After receiving the Access Code, you can reset your ITP Password. For details please refer to the e-Demo.

    If you are an "iAM Smart" Account holder, you can direct login to your ITP Account. No input of ITP Password is required.

    If I have forgotten my ITP Password and have applied an Access Code, can I first login my ITP Account with "iAM Smart" and then reset my ITP Password later?
    Ans

    Yes, you can login to your ITP Account with "iAM Smart" first and reset your ITP Password after receiving the Access Code. To reset ITP Password, click "Forgot TIN and/or Password" on ITP login page, and select "Reset Password with Access Code".

    I am a holder of former eTAX Account. Can I change my Taxpayer Identification Number for eTAX login [i.e. TIN (for eTAX login)] on my first login to ITP?
    Ans

    TIN is your permanent identification number for using ITP services. You may only change it during the registration process. No further change is allowed after the completion of the registration process.

    Former eTAX Account holders may login to ITP with the same TIN (for eTAX login) and password as they login to eTAX Account before. As no registration of ITP Account is required, no change to their TIN (for eTAX login) is allowed.

    Can I change my ITP Password?
    Ans

    You can change your ITP Password by clicking the "Change Password" button in the User Profile of your ITP Account. Any such change will be effective immediately after your confirmation and acceptance by the system.

    In your own interest, you should change your ITP Password on a regular basis. The system will also remind you to change ITP Password for every ninety days.

    My ITP Password has been revoked. How can I login my ITP Account again?
    Ans

    For security reason, after unsuccessful repeated attempts to login an ITP Account, the Account will be revoked. The Account holder has to apply for a new Access Code for resetting the ITP Password.

    If you are an "iAM Smart" Account holder, you can direct login to your ITP Account.

    What should I do if my ITP Password has been inadvertently disclosed to another party or there has been actual or possible unauthorized use of my ITP Account?
    Ans

    If you notice or suspect that your ITP Password is known by any other person or that there is actual or possible unauthorized use of your ITP Account, you should change your ITP Password immediately in your User Profile of your ITP Account. If you need further assistance, please contact IRD at 2594 5199.

    Can I cancel my ITP Account?
    Ans

    You can select "Cancel ITP Account" at the bottom of your User Profile after login ITP Account. IRD will cancel your ITP Account after your confirmation.

    If you cannot login your ITP Account, you can apply for cancellation in writing by quoting your Hong Kong Identity Card Number or Individual Tax File Number.

    Can I re-open my ITP Account after its cancellation?
    Ans

    Yes, you should apply a new Access Code by completing Form IR6104 and the Access Code will be sent to you by post for re-registration process.

  • Q15.
    What is "iAM Smart" and "iAM Smart+" Account?
    Ans

    "iAM Smart" serves as a common authentication key to log in online services of government departments, instead of using different user names / passwords or other means of authentication. "iAM Smart" is a unique identifier assigned to individual upon registration and stored in the Mobile Phone of "iAM Smart" holder.

    "iAM Smart+" Account is also an "iAM Smart" Account but additionally equipped with digital signing function.

    If you are not an "iAM Smart+" Account holder, ITP online services requiring digital signing will not be available.

  • Q17.
    What additional information are required for my first login with "iAM Smart" to ITP Account?
    Ans

    You have to give consent in your "iAM Smart" mobile app and provide personal information including Hong Kong Identity Card Number, English Name, Sex and Date of Birth for identification. You have to accept the ITP Terms and Conditions and update your User Profile in ITP Account. After link-up, you can use the online services provided by ITP.

    What is the advantage of using "iAM Smart" to login ITP Account?
    Ans

    When you forgot your TIN (for eTAX login) and/or ITP Password / ITP Account being revoked / Access Code being expired, you can still direct login to your ITP Account through "iAM Smart" Account.

  • Q19.
    What happened if the English Name provided by "iAM Smart" system is not matched with the IRD record?
    Ans

    If the English name provided by "iAM Smart" system is different form the record stored in the IRD, a reminder message will be shown during link-up process advising you that record not match. To facilitate updating of IRD's database, you will also be advised to send an e-mail to taxinfo@ird.gov.hk with quoting the reference number shown in the message with documentary proof such as a copy of your HK Identity Card or deed poll.

    To ensure the information is correct, the IRD may further verify the information before updating its database. Before the information is verified, you may not be able to access ITP online services. You will be notified of the result via the e-mail address previously provided after completion of verification.

  • Q20.
    Can a Minor (i.e. a person with age less than 18) register for an ITP Account?
    Ans

    Minors are defined as an incapacitated person under the Inland Revenue Ordinance. They cannot register for an ITP Account.

  • Q21.
    How can I know the progress of verification for the suspended ITP Account?
    Ans

    You are advised to check your e-mail regularly in order to know the progress of verification.

    Will there be guiding screens on how to direct login an ITP Account with "iAM Smart" Account?

    What should I do to migrate my eTAX Account to an ITP Account?
    Ans

    To reduce the impact on former eTAX Account holders, the user profile of eTAX Account holders are migrated automatically to ITP. You may login to the ITP in the same manner as logging in to eTAX before. However, on your first login to ITP, you have to accept the ITP Terms and Conditions and follow the system's instruction to update the information recorded in the User Profile of your ITP Account before you can access to ITP's online services.   • Q24.
    What is the recommended practice to terminate user session securely?
    Ans

    For security reason, please by click the "Logout" button to exit after completion of ITP online services, and close all the browser windows immediately.
