Q1. I already have an eTAX Password for using online tax services provided under the Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) platform. Can I use the Password for access to the online services under eTAX?

Q2. I am a holder of personal digital certificate. Do I need to complete the registration process before I can use the online tax service provided under eTAX?

Q3. I made an online application for eTAX Password last week but have not yet received the Access Code. What should I do?

Access Code Notice is sent to the applicant within 2 working days after the date of the online application. Please contact the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) at 183 2011 if you have not received the Access Code Notice within a reasonable time.

Q4. What should I do if I have forgotten my Access Code?

You should make a fresh application for eTAX Password. A new Access Code Notice will be sent to you in due course.

Q5. What should I do if I have forgotten my Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)?

Your TIN can be found on the front page of the Tax Return – Individuals or the Notice of Assessment issued to you. If you cannot locate it, please request IRD to advise you of it by calling eTAX Help Desk at 183 2011 during office hours or request IRD to send you the information through the Forgot TIN or Password link on the eTAX Login page. 

Please note that if you have not yet notified IRD of your latest correspondence address, you should use Form I.R.6104 to make a written, instead of online request.

Q6. What should I do if I have forgotten my eTAX Password?

You can request IRD to send you your password hint or a new Access Code for creating a new Password, through the Forgot TIN or Password link on the eTAX Login page.

Please note that if you have not yet notified IRD of your latest correspondence address, you should use Form I.R.6104 to make a written, instead of online, request.

Q7. Can I change my Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)?

The TIN is your permanent identification number for using eTAX services. You may change it during the registration process only. No further change is allowed after the completion of the registration process.

Q8. Can I change my eTAX Password?

You can change your eTAX Password by clicking the "Change Password" button in the Profile Section of your eTAX Account. Any such change will be effective immediately after your confirmation and acceptance by the system. 

In your own interest, you should change your eTAX Password on a regular basis.

Q9. My eTAX Password has been revoked. How can I login my eTAX Account again?

If repeated attempts to login an eTAX Account have been unsuccessful, the Password for the Account concerned will be revoked. The Account holder has to apply for a new eTAX Password before using eTAX services.

Q10. What should I do if my eTAX Password has been inadvertently disclosed to another party or there has been actual or possible unauthorized use of my eTAX Account?

If you notice or suspect that your eTAX Password is known by any other person or that there is actual or possible unauthorized use of your eTAX Account, you should change your eTAX Password immediately through GovHK. If you need further assistance, please contact IRD at 2594 5199.

Q11. Can I close my eTAX Account?

You can select Close eTAX Account at the bottom left hand corner in your Profile after login of eTAX Account. Arrangement will be made to close your eTAX Account after your confirmation.

Q12. Can I re-open my eTAX Account after its closure?

Yes, you can do so by applying for an eTAX password afresh, and subsequently completing the required registration process.
