    I already have an eTAX Password for using online tax services provided under the Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) platform. Can I use the Password for access to the online services under eTAX?

    Yes, you can do so by completing a simple registration process to open your eTAX Account before using the services, which are provided under specific terms and conditions.

    I am a holder of personal digital certificate. Do I need to complete the registration process before I can use the online tax services provided under eTAX?
    Ans

    For security reason, personalised online services are provided to registered users only. You need to complete the registration process to open your eTAX Account before using the services, which are provided under specific terms and conditions.

    I am a holder of “iAM Smart” Account. Do I need to complete the registration process before I can use the online tax services provided under eTAX?
    Ans

    For security reason, personlized online services are provided to registered users only. If you do not have an eTAX Account, you need to complete the registration process to open your eTAX Account before using the services provided by eTAX. However, if you have already opened an eTAX Account, you can use the online services provided by eTAX after authentication of your identity and login your “iAM Smart” Mobile App.

    I made an online application for eTAX Password last week but have not yet received the Access Code. What should I do?
    Ans

    Access Code Notice is sent to the applicant within 2 working days after the date of the online application. Please contact the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) at 183 2011 if you have not received the Access Code Notice within a reasonable time.

    What should I do if I have forgotten my Access Code?
    Ans

    You should apply for a new Access Code again by completing IR6104  and the Access Code Notice will be sent to you by post.

    If you are an “iAM Smart” Account holder, you can log in instantly to eTAX Account through “iAM Smart” Mobile App.

    What should I do if I have forgotten my Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)?
    Ans

    You can request IRD to send your TIN to your registered e-mail address through the “Forgot TIN/Password” link in eTAX. Please input the phone number and personal e-mail address as registered in the Profile of your eTAX Account.  If both inputs match with the record, your TIN will be sent by e-mail to your personal e-mail address. Otherwise, please complete and return Form IR6104.  For enquiry, please call eTAX Help Desk at 183 2011 during office hours.

    If you are an “iAM Smart” Account holder, you can log in instantly to eTAX Account through “iAM Smart” Mobile App.

    What should I do if I have forgotten my eTAX Password?
    Ans

    If you have created your password hint during registration of your eTAX Password, you can request IRD to send it to you through the “Forgot TIN/Password” link on the eTAX Login page.  If you have not registered your password hint, you can request for the issue of an Access Code through the “Forgot TIN/Password” link by input of your e-mail address or telephone number you registered in the Profile of your eTAX Account.  If either one of the inputs matches with the record, a new Access Code will be sent to you by post for the creation of your new eTAX Password.

    Please note that if you have not yet notified IRD of your latest correspondence address, or you could not obtain your password by the above means, please complete and return Form IR6104.  For enquiry, please call eTAX Help Desk at 183 2011 during office hours.

    If you are an “iAM Smart” Account holder, you can log in instantly to eTAX Account through “iAM Smart” Mobile App.

    If I have forgotten my eTAX password and have applied an Access Code, can I first login my eTAX Account with "iAM Smart" and then update my eTAX password later?
    Ans

    If you are an "iAM Smart" user, please wait for the receipt of the new Access Code and complete the setting of a new eTAX password.  The Access code will be void when you login your eTAX Account with "iAM Smart" during the interim and you could not update your eTAX password.

    Can I change my Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)?
    Ans

    The TIN is your permanent identification number for using eTAX services. You may change it during the registration process only. No further change is allowed after the completion of the registration process.

    If you make registration of eTAX Account through “iAM Smart”, you are recommended to input a new self-selected TIN for future use. If you choose not to do so, a reminder message will be prompted reminding you that the TIN cannot be changed after the registration process is completed.

    Can I change my eTAX Password?
    Ans

    You can change your eTAX Password by clicking the "Change Password" button in the Profile Section of your eTAX Account. Any such change will be effective immediately after your confirmation and acceptance by the system. 

    In your own interest, you should change your eTAX Password on a regular basis.

  • Q11.
    My eTAX Password has been revoked. How can I login my eTAX Account again?
    Ans

    If repeated attempts to login an eTAX Account have been unsuccessful, the eTAXPassword for the Account concerned will be revoked. The Account holder has to apply for a new Access Code* before using eTAX services.

    * You can request for the issue of an Access Code through the “Forgot TIN/Password” link by input your e-mail address or telephone number you registered in the Profile of your eTAX Account.  If either one of the inputs matches with the record, a new Access Code will be sent to you by post for the creation of your new eTAX Password.

    What should I do if my eTAX Password has been inadvertently disclosed to another party or there has been actual or possible unauthorized use of my eTAX Account?
    Ans

    If you notice or suspect that your eTAX Password is known by any other person or that there is actual or possible unauthorized use of your eTAX Account, you should change your eTAX Password immediately through eTAX. If you need further assistance, please contact IRD at 2594 5199.

  • Q13.
    Can I cancel my eTAX Account?
    Ans

    You can select “Cancel eTAX Account” at the bottom left hand corner in your “Profile” after login of eTAX Account. Arrangement will be made to cancel your eTAX Account after your confirmation.

    If you cannot login your eTAX Account, you can apply for cancellation in writing by quoting your file number/Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN).

    Can I re-open my eTAX Account after its cancellation?
    Ans

    Yes, you should apply for an Access Code afresh by completing Form IR6104 and the Access Code Notice will sent to you by post for using eTAX service again.

  • Q15.
    What is “iAM Smart” and “iAM Smart+” Account?
    Ans

    “iAM Smart” serves as a common authentication key to log in online services of government departments, instead of using different user names/passwords or other means of authentication. “iAM Smart” is a unique identifier assigned to individual upon registration and stored in mobile device of “iAM Smart” holder.

    “iAM Smart+” Account is also an “iAM Smart” Account but additionally equipped with digital signing function.

    How to register for “iAM Smart” or “iAM Smart+” Account?
    Ans

    There are three ways to register an “iAM Smart” / “iAM Smart+” Account:

    1. Registration of “iAM Smart” via the iAM Smart Mobile App can be done online by capturing Hong Kong Identity Card image and selfie via the mobile device. (Those who register by this means can get authentication and form filling services only.)
    2. Registration of “iAM Smart+” at the Self-service Kiosk requires in-person identity verification with Hong Kong Identity Card via kiosks at designated locations.  (Those who register by this means can get authentication, digital signing and form filling services.)
    3. Registration of “iAM Smart+” via Service Counter / Mobile Registration Team requires in-person identity verification with Hong Kong Identity Card via service counters or mobile registration teams at designated locations.  (Those who register by this means can get authentication, digital signing and form filling services.)

  • Q17.
    What additional information are required for my first login with “iAM Smart” to eTAX Account?
    Ans

    You have to give consent in your “iAM Smart” Mobile App and provide personal information including Hong Kong Identity Card Number, English Name, Sex and Date of Birth for identification.

  • Q18.
    What is the advantage of using “iAM Smart” to log in eTAX Account?
    Ans

    When you forget your TIN / eTAX password / eTAX Account being revoked / Access Code being expired, you can still log in instantly to eTAX Account through “iAM Smart” Account.

  • Q19.
    What happened if the English Name provided by “iAM Smart” system is not matched with IRD record?
    Ans

    As an existing eTAX Account holder, a reminder message will be shown on top of your Personal Profile Page advising you that the English name provided by “iAM Smart” system is different from the record stored in the IRD. You will also be advised to rectify the error by quoting the reference number shown in the message via email to taxinfo@ird.gov.hk.

    If your English Name provided by “iAM Smart” system is different from IRD database during registration of eTAX Account, further verification will be required and eTAX online services will be suspended. You will be notified of the result via the email address previously provided after completion of verification.

  • Q20.
    Can a Minor (i.e. a person with age less than 18) register an eTAX Account?
    Ans

    As minor is defined as an incapacitated person under the Inland Revenue Ordinance, he cannot register an eTAX Account.

  • Q21.
    How can I know the progress of verification for the suspended eTAX Account?
    Ans

    You are advised to check your email regularly in order to know the progress of verification.

    Will there be guiding screens on how to register an eTAX Account with “iAM Smart” Account?
    Ans
