If a dead body is required to be removed from Hong Kong for burial, a relative of the deceased can, after registration of a death from natural causes or the issue of Form 11 from the Coroner for a death from unnatural causes, approach the relevant Deaths Registries to apply for the Permit for Removal of Dead Body from Hong Kong, which is free of charge.

Supporting documents

The applicant is required to complete an application form (Form SF/BDR/3), which is available at the respective Deaths Registries, and give information such as the personal particulars of the deceased, as well as when and to where the dead body will be removed from Hong Kong. In some cases, the applicant may need to produce evidence that permission to move the dead body into another territory has been obtained before he/she is issued with the permit.
