  • Highlight of Interesting IssuesHighlight of Interesting Issues

    • The Home Affairs Department (HAD) has requested that any PU foam filled mattresses used in premises of medium fire hazard should meet the flammability standard as laid down in BS 7177:1996 since 2000.  After considering the views of the trade, the HAD now accepts BS7177:2008 as an equivalent flammability standard and will revise its fire safety requirements accordingly.
    • The HAD reviewed the requirement of providing an illuminating exit sign in a guestroom in 2000.  At present, the Department does not impose the installation requirement on a guestroom with simple layout.  For operators who want to remove those exit signs installed before 2000, they should contact the HAD. HAD will allow removal of the signs subject to the aforementioned criteria.
