Making an Appointment for Counter Service at Licensing Offices of the Transport Department

Documents to Take to Your Appointment

When attending your appointment, you should take the completed relevant application forms and other required documents as set out in the application forms, including acceptable address proof.

The relevant forms can be downloaded from the links provided below, obtained by fax through the Transport Department's customer service hotline at 2804 2600 or fetched in person at one of the Licensing Offices.

Renewal of Full Driving Licence

Holders of full driving licences that will expire in the coming four months and those whose licences have expired within the last three years can use this service to book an appointment at a nearby Licensing Office to submit licence renewal applications. If your driving licence has expired exceeding 3 years, it cannot be renewed.

When attending your appointment, you should take submit the completed application form for full driving licence renewal (TD557) or full driving licence renewal notice cum application form (TD578) or the reminder (TD601) and other required documents as set out in TD557, or TD578 or TD601. The form TD578 is generally sent to the driving licence holder by mail two to three months before the expiry date of his/her current licence by Transport Department. Another reminder (TD601) is generally sent to licence holder whose licence is about to expire for three years shortly and yet to be renewed.

New Issue or Addition of Full Driving Licence/ New Issue, Renewal or Addition of Driving Instructor’s Licence

Applicant can apply for new issue of full driving licence for the respective vehicle class(es) within 3 years from the date of completion of the relevant probationary driving period for the relevant vehicle class(es).

New Issue, Extension or Addition of Probationary Driving Licence

Once you have passed your driving test(s), you can approach the Licensing Office of the Transport Department after 7 working days but not exceeding 3 years from the date of passing the driving test to apply for a probationary or full driving licence. A probationary driving licence must be applied within 3 years from the date of passing the relevant driving test(s).

A probationary driving licence is valid for 12 months from the date of issue. A probationary driving licence can be renewed for 6 months each time.  The renewal of probationary driving licence application may be submitted at any time within 15 days before its expiry or not more than 3 years after its expiry.

Duplicate of Driving Licence and Driving Instructor’s Licence

If the validity period of your lost/destroyed/defaced licence is not more than 4 months, you may apply for renewal of licence instead of a duplicate licence. If your driving licence has expired exceeding 3 years, it cannot be renewed.

Change of Personal Particulars (for Driving Licence Holders only)

If a change occurs in the name, address or identity document of a driving licence holder previously provided to the Commissioner for Transport, the driving licence holder shall, within 72 hours of the change, notify the Commissioner for Transport in writing with the proof of change.

This appointment booking service is only applicable for change of personal particulars for driving licence holders.  It is not applicable to application of change of vehicle particulars and/or change of particulars of registered owners of vehicles registered under company / who are not driving licence holders.

Note for Applicants Aged 70 or above

Applicants aged 70 or above must submit the medical examination certificate (TD256) duly completed and signed by registered medical practitioners within 4 months when they submit their application forms for issue, renewal or addition of full/probationary/temporary/learner’s driving licence.
