Online Appointment Booking for Replacement of Identity Cards (Territory-wide Identity Card Replacement Exercise)

Under the Territory-wide Identity Card Replacement Exercise, appointment booking period for replacing new smart identity cards at the newly established Smart Identity Card Replacement Centres (SIDCCs) is 24 working days. Before visiting the SIDCCs , applicants are advised to make appointment on the Internet, via the Immigration Department Mobile Application or by phone.

You can make use of this online service to make an appointment booking for replacing Hong Kong new smart identity card and prefilling application form before visiting the SIDCCs. This article will tell you what you should know before using the online booking service.

Who Can Use This Service?

The Territory-wide Identity Card Replacement Exercise covers all Hong Kong residents who are holders of a smart identity card with the date of issue between 23 June 2003 and 24 November 2018, regardless of whether they are Hong Kong permanent residents, or residents for employment (including foreign domestic helper), investment or study. The Secretary for Security had issued a legal order to announce the details of the replacement arrangement. Holders of Hong Kong Identity Cards are required to have their existing identity cards replaced within their specified periods. Online Appointment Booking (also for subsequent change, cancellation or enquiry of booking)

Online appointment booking for replacement of identity cards and form pre-filling (for persons with year of birth of 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 or 2018, or those of other age groups which have been called up earlier for replacement of identity card.)

Please note that the Smart Identity Card Replacement Centres will not process any first-time application for adult or juvenile identity card; replacement of identity card due to loss, destruction, damage or defacement; amendment of registered particulars on identity card; or identity card applications from new arrivals. How to Start

To make an appointment, you need to enter your Hong Kong identity card number as the identity document number and input your day and year of birth as well. If you are making an appointment for your child, please provide the Hong Kong identity card number of the child. You also have to enter a personalised 4-digit enquiry code for subsequent change, cancellation or enquiry about your appointment.

You can select your appointment for the next 24 working days (Monday to Saturday, except public holidays). The result of your booking is subject to the availability of quota of each Smart Identity Card Replacement Centre (SIDCC).

Starting from 18 February 2020, applicant may bring along two family members or friends aged 65 or above and two qualified persons with disabilities to replace identity cards. If you wish to bring along the above persons for replacing identity card, you may make an appointment for up to 5 applicants, including yourself. Applicants of the same appointment shall visit the SIDCC together for replacement of identity card within the specified time.

When an appointment is made successfully, you may choose to receive an appointment reminder. An email reminder will then be sent to the email address you provided 2 days before the appointment day. You can change your email address or cancel the reminder at least 3 days before the appointment day.

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please change or cancel it at least 1 day before the appointment day.

Please note that if the information provided for making an appointment is incorrect, the appointment will be automatically deleted from the system without further notice.

Supporting Documents to Take with You

When you apply for replacing a smart identity card at a Smart Identity Card Replacement Centre, you only need to bring along your existing smart identity card.

If you are under 18 years of age, you must be accompanied by your father/mother or legal guardian and bring along your birth certificate. The accompanying father/mother or legal guardian should produce his/her proof of identity (e.g. identity card or travel document). If you are accompanied by a legal guardian, the legal guardian should produce proof of the guardianship.

In addition, for an applicant under 11 years of age, the accompanying father/mother or legal guardian should produce:

  • The applicant’s existing smart Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card;
  • The applicant’s other proof of identity, such as recent travel document or recent school document with certified photograph (e.g. student handbook, school record book); and
  • The applicant’s recent photo (50 X 40 mm full face photo), if the applicant is not taller than 90 cm.
