Hong Kong is vigilant and prepared
The SAR Government remains on high alert in the battle against human swine flu. Hong Kong's experience with SARS and avian influenza has provided us with a robust alert, detection and response mechanism for new, emerging diseases and other health threats. We are taking prompt and comprehensive action to ensure that residents are kept fully informed about the latest influenza situation, and ways to help prevent its spread in the community when infections are detected. We urge all members of the community to remain vigilant and prepared, and to work with the government to maximise our chances in the fight against human swine influenza.

What to do if you fall ill
People who develop flu symptoms should put on a mask and consult a doctor as soon as possible. Those who have been to affected places or been exposed to sick persons should tell the doctor the travel and contact history. Antiviral agents can reduce the severity and duration of illness but must be used under doctor's prescription. It is important for people not to self-medicate.
