Brief Description : | As the existing coal-fired generating units will start to retire in the coming years and the electricity supply infrastructure requires long-term planning, the Government has carried out the review on the future fuel mix for electricity generation in a timely manner, in order to meet the future electricity demand of Hong Kong and to improve the environment. A three-month public consultation was also launched on 19 March 2014. Two fuel mix options were put forward for public consultation, including (a) “grid purchase”, under which we proposed importing electricity through purchase from the Mainland power grid; and (b) “local generation”, under which we proposed using more natural gas for local generation. |
