Online Application for HKSAR Passport (Application for Persons Aged 18 or Above)

As you apply online, you need to:

(1) upload your recent photograph in plain white background that meets the standard requirements as laid down in the photograph requirements;

(2) upload a copy of your existing Hong Kong permanent identity card (PIC) and other supporting documents (if any); and

(3) complete online the application form (ID 841 for applications submitted in Hong Kong or ID 843 for applications submitted outside Hong Kong.).

Depending on the circumstances of individual application, additional documents or information may also be required. Acceptable file formats of digital photograph, PIC and supporting documents are listed below:

Image type: JPEG
File size: 600Kbytes or below
Acceptable dimension:

  • Captured by scanner (600dpi) - Photograph size: 40 mm(W) x 50 mm(H)
  • Captured by digital camera - Image size: 1200 px(W) x 1600 px(H)

Acceptable File Format of PIC and Supporting Document Copies for Online Application

Image type: JPEG, GIF or TIF (RAW, LZW, JPEG, CCITT-G4)
Image resolution: 200dpi or above
File size: 1Mbytes or below for each file

Note: You must collect your new passport in person by producing your PIC and the original copies of supporting documents (if any) submitted in the application for verification, and your existing HKSAR Passport or Document of Identity for Visa Purposes (if any) for cancellation.

Application for Persons Aged 16 or Above

Please provide the following documents together with your application.

(a) Your Hong Kong permanent identity card (For overseas application, applicant who is not holding a Hong Kong permanent identity card or who is holding an invalid Hong Kong permanent identity card, applicant of the age 18 years or above should complete and sign the application form for a Hong Kong permanent identity card (ROP 143). For applicant under the age of 18 years should submit Form ROP 144, duly completed and signed by the parent or legal guardian).

(b) For first-time applications for passports, your previous Document of Identity for Visa Purposes, if any.

(c) For applications for replacement passports, your last passport.

Additional requirements for applicants aged 16 or 17

(d) Consenting parent or legal guardian's Hong Kong identity card or valid travel documents.

(e) Your birth certificate to prove the relationship between you and your parent, or a court order, if applicable, to prove that the consenting legal guardian concerned has custodial rights in respect of you.

(f) If you are married, only your marriage certificate is required. Parental or legal guardian's consent and items (d) and (e) are not required.

Note: If you submit the application by post or via drop-in box, please do not enclose originals of the supporting documents. You are required to provide photocopies of the documents listed above [except for item (b),(c)]. You should produce the original copies of such documents together with your previous passport or Document of Identity for Visa Purposes for verification upon collection of your passport.

Application for Children Aged under 16

(a) The child's Hong Kong permanent identity card (For overseas application, applicant who is not holding a Hong Kong permanent identity card or who is holding an invalid Hong Kong permanent identity card, should submit Form ROP 144, duly completed and signed by the parent or legal guardian).

(b) Consenting parent or legal guardian's Hong Kong identity card or valid travel documents.

(c) The child's birth certificate to prove the relationship between the parent and the child, or a court order, if applicable, to prove that the consenting legal guardian concerned has custodial rights in respect of the child.

(d) For first-time applications for passports, the child's previous Document of Identity for Visa Purposes if any.

(e) For applications for replacement passports, the child's previous passport.

Additional requirements for children aged under 11

(f) School document (e.g. a Student's Handbook bearing the child's name, date of birth and photograph that should be certified by a chop of the school) or other evidence of identity is required. If evidence of identity is not available, a completed Form for Countersignature (ID641) together with a photocopy of the countersignatory's Hong Kong identity card or valid travel document bearing the countersignatory's signature.

Additional requirements for children aged under 11 who do not hold Hong Kong Permanent Identity Cards

(g) An additional photograph (two identical photographs should be submitted in total).

(h) An application form for a Hong Kong permanent identity card, duly completed and signed by the parent or legal guardian of the child.

(i) Documents in support of the child's right of abode in the HKSAR (such as a birth certificate with 'established' permanent resident status).

Additional documents or information may be required if necessary.

Note: If you submit the child's application by post or via drop-in box, please do not enclose originals of the supporting documents [except for item (g), (h) and Form for Countersignature (ID 641)]. You are required to provide photocopies of the documents listed above [except for items (d) and (e)]. You should produce the original copies of such documents together with your child's previous passport or Document of Identity for Visa Purposes for verification when you collect your child's passport.
