Under the Code on Access to Information, you may make a request for information or records held by government bureaux and departments of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.  You may make the request to the Immigration Department online here.

Services Available through This Online Service

A. Access to General Information

Using this online service, you may request access to the general information on various services provided by the Immigration Department. For example, you may make a request for the application form, statistics available to the public, etc, relating to our services including registration of Hong Kong identity card, registration of births, deaths and marriage, issue of travel document, visa application and application for extension of stay. How to Submit?

You need to complete the application form online and submit it together with the supporting documents (if any).

Before you start the online application, you need to scan the supporting documents required (if any) in the following file format:

    Image type : JPEG, GIF or TIF (RAW, LZW, JPEG, CCITT-G4)
    Image resolution : 200dpi or above
    File size : 1Mbytes or below for each file

When the supporting documents are ready in the acceptable file format, you may proceed to the online application.  You may be required to provide additional information or documents to support your application.

B. Access to Information with Personal Data

Using this online service, you may request a copy of document you have submitted in connection with the process of an immigration facility, e.g. a copy of an employment contract, completed application form or travel document, etc.  You may also request access to information on behalf of another person with proper authorisation of that person.

Moreover, you may also request access to the personal data stated in the List of Information Available to the Public at a Fee in the prescribed manners.

How to Submit?

The submission procedures are as follows :

1. Download and print the application form below. Please read the notes carefully before completing the form.  After completion, you need to sign the form.

If you wish to request access to information on behalf of other person, please also submit a written authorisation and proof of identity of that person.

2. Scan the signed application form and the supporting documents in the following file format:

    Image type : JPEG, GIF or TIF (RAW, LZW, JPEG, CCITT-G4)
    Image resolution : 200dpi or above
    File size : 1Mbytes or below for each file

3. Submit the application online when the application form and supporting documents are ready in the acceptable file format.

You are advised to submit the request with your personal computer to minimise the chance of exposing your personal information to unauthorised person.

After receipt of your online request, the Department may require you to furnish additional information or documents to support your application.

Fees

Both online submission services on Access to General Information and Access to Information with Personal Data are free of charge.  Other than publications which are available free of charge or at a cost specified, a charge will be made to cover the cost of photocopying documents to be supplied at the standard photocopying charge per photocopy unless otherwise provided by enactment or approved by the Secretary for Financial Services and Treasury.  You will be advised of such charge before collection of the requested documents.

Processing Time

Where possible, the information requested will be made available within 10 days after receipt of your request.  If the Department is unable to provide the requested information within 10 days, you will receive an interim reply within the same period.  The target processing time is 21 days from the date of receipt of request.
