While you are in joy of having a new member in your family and engaged in the hard work of child-minding, you should always remember to register the birth of your baby within 42 days of delivery. Here you can learn about the procedures for registration of your child’s birth and addition/alteration of your child’s name as well as how to search for birth records or get a certified copy of them.
Important Note :
With effect from 9 March 2010, all parents applying for birth registration of their newborn babies should make prior appointment booking through the Internet (www.gov.hk/birthregistration ( http://www.gov.hk/en/residents/immigration/bdmreg/birth/birthreg/regbirth.htm )) or by telephone (2598 0888). Birth registration is free of charge within 42 days of the birth. Parents are advised to make an appointment within the free registration period after the baby's birth return has been electronically transmitted from the hospital to the births registry. After making the appointment, parents can also change or cancel it before the appointment date. For the best use of resources, parents are advised to attend the birth registry punctually at the reserved time slot; amend or cancel the appointment as soon as possible when required.
