After registration of your child's birth, you may apply at any of the births registries to alter or add to the name of a child if desired. However, no addition/alteration to the name of a child shall be made in the birth entries after the child has reached the age of 11.
For addition/alteration of name of a child, the presence of the child is not required. If you want to obtain a certified copy of a birth entry with addition/alteration of your child’s name, you are required to pay a prescribed fee.
Application for addition / alteration of child's name can be submitted to any of the birth registries.

In applying for addition / alteration to the name of a child, the parent must attend in person to make a declaration and produce the child’s birth certificate.
It takes 25 minutes to process an application for addition/alteration of child’s name. A certified copy of a birth entry with the addition / alteration to the child’s name can be issued in 9 working days (working days denote Monday to Friday excluding General Holidays).
No fee is payable if the addition / alteration to the child's name is made within the period of 42 days from the birth. After 42 days, a fee of HK$425 will be charged. If you want to obtain a certified copy of a birth entry with addition / alteration of your child's name, you will need to pay HK$140 for each copy.
