You may find this service convenient when you need to settle the payment of Rates and Government Rent while you do not know the outstanding balance in the account. Please note that you need to have the Account Number of the property before you can use the service.

How to use the service?

The enquiry process is simple. The steps are:

1. Get ready the 15-digit Account Number printed on the top left-hand corner of your Rates and/or Government Rent demand.

2. Simply input the Account Number and you can obtain the enquiry result.

Special Points to Note

  1. Please note that different Account Numbers might be assigned to a property at various periods of time. The outstanding balance shown in the online enquiry service may not include all the outstanding balances pertaining to the property. The accounting information to be shown is for reference only and cannot be regarded as a confirmation on the payment position in respect of the property concerned. If you need a confirmation, please contact the Rating and Valuation Department (RVD) at 2152 2152.

  2. The Government rent payable for a property is determined by the type of Government lease under which it is held. Among the various types of Government rent currently charged on properties, the RVD is only responsible for the one assessed and charged under the Government Rent (Assessment and Collection) Ordinance (Cap. 515). Other types of Government rent are charged by the Lands Department and account enquiries on them should be addressed to the Lands Department. Please call hotline 2231 3033 for details.

Friendly Reminder to Potential Property Owner

If you are buying a property, you are strongly advised to check the overall Rates and Government Rent balances of the property. It is because the Government is entitled to take back the property under the Government Rights (Re-entry and Vesting Remedies) Ordinance (Cap. 126), if the Government rent, including that accrued before change of ownership, is not paid. You will incur extra costs to get the property back in this case.

You can make an enquiry by using Form RVD 1009 "Rates and/or Government Rent Account Enquiry Form". A fee of $81 will be charged for each enquiry. Please return the completed form together with a cheque payable to "The Government of the HKSAR" for the service charge to RVD by post or in person at 15/F Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon. A reply will normally be issued within 14 days.
