Table 1: Tested operating systems and browsers

Note 1: For security and performance reasons, Microsoft only supports the most current version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system. We recommend users access GovHK online services through the latest version of Internet Explorer for their respective Windows operating system (Internet Explorer 9 in Microsoft Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 11 in Microsoft Windows 7 or later versions). More details are available from the official website of Microsoft.

Note 2: Microsoft Edge does not support Java plug-in. If you choose to use a digital certificate to access GovHK online services through Microsoft Edge, you may encounter Java plug-in problems.

Note 3: Google releases updates of Chrome automatically, and we make our best effort to test our online services with the latest version of the browser. As it takes time to perform testing, if you experience any issues in using our GovHK online services with Chrome, please report it to our Help Desk.

Note 4: For security and performance reasons, Google has made changes to Chrome, which has ceased to support Java plug-in. If you choose to use a digital certificate to access GovHK online services through Chrome, you may encounter Java plug-in problems. More details are available from the official website of Java.

Note 5: Google Chrome has ceased to support Windows Vista. We recommend users to access GovHK online services through supported browsers running in Windows Vista.

*For technical reasons, some GovHK online services may require specific operating systems, browsers or system configurations other than those listed above to ensure that the services operate smoothly. In such a case, the requirements will be stated on the entry page and the FAQ of that online service.

If you are using Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) for Internet connection, please refer to the related FAQ.

Browser Configuration

In general, to use GovHK online services, you need to enable the following in your browser:

  • Javascript
  • Cookies
  • TLS
  • Java 8

New Operating Systems and Browsers

When a new operating system or browser is released to the public, the Government needs to conduct compatibility tests to ensure proper function of the online services on the new operating system or browser. When compatibility issues arise, we may need to modify the online services. The whole process of modification and testing may take a few months to complete.
